Course Director
Amrita M Menon
Research Coordinator, Nature Conservation Foundation
Masters in Applied Ecology.
Amrita is broadly interested in conservation biology and population ecology. She is now working on a leopard conservation project in Karnataka with the Western Ghats team at Nature Conservation Foundation. She mainly uses camera trapping and spatial capture-recapture methodology to obtain population estimates for leopards. She analyses the distribution of other terrestrial mammals in her study area using other appropriate methods. She is working on improving the current ecological data processing by implementing new and innovative technological solutions.
Previously, she has worked on golden frogs (Hylarana aurantiaca) at Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, on the Olive Ridley turtle conservation program at Centre for Ecological Sciences, IISc, Bangalore, and on neotropical bats of Brazilia National Park in Brazil. She has worked in field sites like the Andes, Amazon and Galapagos Island.
